2004 Contest WinnersThe 2004 Chester Himes High School Mystery Writing Contest received 66 entries. The stories ranged from deadly steamy passion to hard nosed P.I. investigations. Students from six different Oakland high schools participated in the writing contest.
Deanna Grant, 11th Grade, from Far West High School won the first place cash prize of $200, for her story, The Unwanted Truth. Jennifer Carroll, a 10th grade student from McClymonds High School was the second place winner. The other winners were:
